Save PQ Village

KAMP is one of 32 organizations in San Diego County who have signed a letter that urges planning commissioners to oppose the development over Penasquitos (PQ) Village.

Show up in solidarity with us at the Planning Commission Meeting this Thursday 12/7, 9AM at the San Diego City Council Chambers Downtown (202 C St)!

On Thursday, December 7th, 9:00AM at the City Council Chambers in Downtown, the Planning Commission Meeting will join together to decide whether or not to approve the development over PQ village. As the development has NOT been approved, we still have a fighting chance to take action by letting our voices be heard AGAINST the development over our fellow community members.

Note that a press conference will be held at 8:00AM — keep traffic in mind and try to arrive early. The meeting will take place in the City Council Chambers on the 12th floor. Carpooling is encouraged, as there is a fee to pay for parking. “If” the development is indeed approved, it will go to the City Council for their approval.

Here are ways you can take action:

About 900 PQ residents will lose their homes as 332 units are replaced by expensive townhomes and luxury apartments. San Diego County has been experiencing a crisis of homelessness and affordable housing since 2013. This is the worst time to lose affordable homes in our neighborhood. We believe our City Council and Community Planning Boards require an increase of affordable housing development – not a decrease.

The Fall of the I-Hotel & the Fate of PQ Village

Join APALA San Diego for brunch as we celebrate Filipinx American History Month!

APALA San Diego will be hosting a screening of the documentary “The Fall of the I-Hotel”, a film about the displacement of mostly Filipino residents of a low-income residential hotel in San Francisco and the community organizing efforts to resist its demolition.

Following the film, there will be a panel discussion about the housing crisis in San Diego including the current movement to save the last affordable housing development in Rancho Penasquitos where over 300 seniors, veterans and low-income families, most of whom are Filipino, are being forcibly evicted and will be faced with homelessness.
